... And a Peak is a time when you appreciate what you have.
Went to the same book store. Going to the bookshop takes me about 1.5 hrs in car. Yet I remembered the peace and calm with good music and children playing (they have a small play area within the store) ... that I went again today.
So after the usual browsing, I settled with the book Peaks and valleys: making good and bad times work for you--at work and in life (cover in the image). I knew what the book would talk about... don't give up in difficult times. Stay cool in good times... who doesn't know this? I even try to practice it. But I guess I fail and give it the "theoretical" tag and continue with my usual things should have been better and I cannot do anything about situations attitude. I wish I could apply more of this theory to my life. Nonetheless I started reading.
Spencer is genius. He made me read - till the very end - what I already knew. He's got a good writing style. Peaks are actual peaks (hills) and valleys are valleys. A young man tries to go up. He succeeds. He boasts. he loses friends. Then he goes again. This time he is careful and uses his achievement wisely. All the while there is (as expected) a wise old man at the Peak who helps him see the truth, teaches him to accept the reality and inspires him to act for a vision. Young man becomes wise. Old man dies. Young man becomes old. Thats all there is in the book. Some 112 pages on it. And I completed it all the way to "after the story" (his version of epilogue).
I did not buy it. I do not remember the price on it. I think it was something between 300 to 400. I am not sure if this book is a must in your collection. But such "be happy" books are a must read once in a while to reinforce the knowledge that you know - its you who makes yourself happy .... and even unhappy.
I'm going to try be positive and see the good in all SITUATIONS for sometime now. I hope this lasts for at least a week. Oh man! I think this is not a good vision - a week! The book says make a good vision and work towards it. So let me have a target of one year. Damm ... the book says be realistic. Now that means I should target for a month. Ok, optimistically - two months!
If you see another posting in about 2 months on the same / similar topic - you know it - I have achieved my vision! If not ... hey! why should I even think about that. I am going to try "be happy".
